It was an emotional day for the HOST & Early Attachment Service Mellow Parenting Team this week.
On Wednesday, we completed our final session of the 14 week group we run with Mums and Toddlers to help develop relationships.
What is Mellow Parenting?
Mellow parenting is a family of programmes developed to support parents and their children in making good relationships. The foundation of all the programmes is attachment theory with particular emphasis on the transmission of attachment and relationship styles across generations. ‘Mellow Mums’ is a therapeutic group for Mums who have babies and young children and who may be experiencing mental health issues and/or difficulties with relationships.
Mixtures of reflective and practical techniques are used to allow parents to address their personal challenges and the challenges they face with their children.
The group allows parents to think about their own childhood experiences and gives them time to reflect and think about how this may impact their own children and future relationships . The group helps parents to identify their needs and those of their children and to improve their well-being.
Over lunch the parents and children eat together and participate in fun activities using cheap or free materials, allowing parent and child the opportunities to build and strengthen their relationship.
The end of each course is marked with affirmation exercises for each parent, a small gift to acknowledge their journey and certificates for each participant!
How can a Mellow Parenting course help?
Our aim with Mellow in Tameside is to increase parental sensitivity, strengthen relationships and have a positive impact on the long term outcomes for children, enabling them to reach their best potential educationally, socially, physically and emotionally.
We wish all our Mellow families well for the future and can offer on-going support via our Tameside Toddler Troupe and with Home-Starts home visiting volunteers if further support is needed.
