  • Physical Activity Early Years Training

Ryecroft Hall
Thursday 22nd February 2018
10am – 2pm

Open to current volunteers.  On completion of this 1-day workshop you will:

  • Have basic knowledge of National UK Physical Activity guidelines for under-5s.
  • Understand the importance of physical activity and active play in the learning and development of young children.
  • Be able to promote physical activity using actions & games suitable for under-5s.
  • Be able to adapt the home environment to promote opportunities for physical activity.
  • Increase your confidence in speaking to families with young children about the importance of a child’s physical development in the early years.

A light lunch will be provided.  The afternoon session will be mainly practical, so please come dressed in comfy clothes and sensible shoes.

  • Parent Infant Mental Health Training

Wednesday 24th & 31st January, 7th & 14th February
10am – 2pm

This four session course will introduce volunteers to the PIMHs role within Home-Start, the Early Attachment Service and the working relationship we have with the Attachment Service.

Topics covered over each week:

  • Attachment theory, bonding and the importance of the 0-2 years period
  • The ante-natal period and how Home-Start can support
  • Birth and beyond, baby development stages
  • Stresses and strains on families with an under 2, resilience factors, volunteer role and Infant Feeding presentation

Places are offered on a first come first served basis to volunteers who can commit to attending all four sessions.

Please note, this course is partially delivered by Tameside health visiting team and will only run in Tameside & Stockport (the Tameside course is fully booked), but is open to ALL volunteers. The course will only run with a minimum of eight people and is limited to a maximum of 12.

    Infant Feeding Peer Support Training

    This training is offered to Infant Support Feeding Volunteers. Please click here for further information

    Course content:

    • basics of Infant Feeding management including helping a mother achieve a more comfortable latch and hand expression
    • reflection on personal experience
    • an introduction to listening skills
    • an introduction to group work
    • the role of Breastfeeding Network and other breastfeeding support
    • sources of Infant Feeding information
    • the role of research
    • introduction to measures needed to protect infant feeding from commercial interests and non-evidence based interventions.

    This course is accredited with Breastfeeding Network through Open College Network (OCN). We ask for one years commitment of 2-3 hours a week . To apply to for this course, you need to have 3 weeks ongoing breastfeeding experience.
