‘Motiv8: Building Better Opportunities for Greater Manchester’ is a project which supports people to overcome challenges preventing them from moving into training and employment.
Home Start HOST is a delivery partner of the Motiv8 programme, providing support to families with young children and helping parents improve their confidence, resilience and coping ability as well as reducing isolation and improving mental health and well-being.
The project is being led by Manchester Athena, a partnership of housing associations working together to transform people’s lives by improving their skills, employment, health and well-being.
Home-Start Oldham, Stockport & Tameside deliver one-day Mental Health Awareness courses, designed to benefit the most marginalised people, who have the least chance of gaining employment. We deliver 10 courses over the year, to participants aged 25+ living in Greater Manchester, who can be referred by a key worker.
Participants are those who are not currently in employment or training, and the aim of the support is to help them as far as possible on their journey into employment. The aim of the project is not necessarily to have all participants fully employed – for some clients, even starting a job search could be considered a great success.
For clients who may have alcohol or drug dependancy issues, or a history of mental health issues, understanding their own mental health better is an important step towards re-entering training or employment.
The programme has been set up thanks to £9.7 million funding from the Big Lottery Fund and European Social Fund’s Building Better Opportunities programme.
