Peer support in the home & in the community

Friendly,family-centred support when and where it’s needed

Understanding support to help your family thrive

Parenting young children is a rewarding journey, but it also comes with unique challenges.  Home-Start began with volunteers offering weekly support visits to parents with young children – helping them feel seen, heard and understood.  We walk with you on your parenting journey, helping you navigate the highs, lows and everything in between.

All our support is based on empathy – we have experience and a deep understanding of the joy, worries and responsibility that come with raising children.  We offer peer support via weekly visits in your own home, from trained staff and volunteers, and also via supportive parent-and-toddler groups.  Our support is tailored to your needs and goals.

FAQ

What kind of families do you support?

Our families are as diverse as the communities we serve, with children ranging from newborns to 5 years old, including parents expecting a baby.  We support families facing a wide range of challenges, and our volunteers provide versatile assistance, including emotional support, practical help, and guidance.  Our groups are for parents and toddelrs under 2, and expectant parents.

What support is available where I live?

Due to funding, some of our support is different depending on the borough you live in.  Our Home-Visiting support will always be offered wherever you live, but to see a list of our services in your area, visit our ‘Get Support’ page.

How can I ask for support?

You can call us on 0161 344 0669 to ask about support for you and your family, or with questions about any of our services.  Our friendly Admin team will be happy to help!  We also take referrals from professionals like Health Visitors, Midwives and other support organisations, so they can make this request on your behalf.
